Spring in the Mountains

"Sven and Wesley"
I am so excited to be home; while being a little overwhelmed with the weather, schedule and uncertainty of the season to come. We are off to Tulip Springs, in Kennewick, WA this weekend for a cross country school in preparations for NWEC in Rainier next weekend! Michelle is taking her C-2 in a couple of weeks and I have some out of town clinics coming up. I am also hoping to put in a garden this year (I know, not the smartest use of my time in McCall Idaho!)
Wasatch Sport Horses is pleased to announce our purchase of "Yes We Can" aka "Wesley" from Audrey Corsburg. He is a lovely, kind, talented animal that we love having in the barn.
We also just got in Payton, a 16.2 hand unbroke 7 year old mustang that is very handsome and sweet.
Things are getting cleaned up and rolling at the barn (between snow storms) and we are looking forward to a fun filled summer (between snow storms.) Hope to see you all soon.

Coming Home

Our time in the sun of Arizona is coming to an end. I have to brag on the season; not only was the weather above average; the horses were as well!
The highlights of the year have been mixed between our own rides and some of the amazing rides we have witnessed. We took a family affair to Las Vegas
to watch the FEI World Cup Dressage and Show Jumping and are still in awe! Steffen Peters, Sapphire, and Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum are nothing short of inspirational. Their position, skill, horse flesh and presence gives me goose bumps, really! McLain and Sapphire in the final-

Thermal CA 2009

A few weeks ago I had and watched some great jumping lessons by a friend in Cave Creek, AZ. Some of the comments she made have been stuck in my head and I have been having a difficult time picturing the position and the best way for me to teach the ideas to my students. After pondering the points for a while, I remembered how close Thermal, California is. This time of year up to 2000 horses meet in Thermal to compete in the HITS horse show there. 5 days a week, they compete in up to 10 rings of hunters and jumpers with the top horses and trainers attending. So, my mother and I packed an overnight bag and took the short 3 hour cruise and watched hundreds of horse and rider pairs negotiate jumps for two days. What a trip! The Grand Prix on Friday had 54 starters and 13 in the jump off! Beijing silver medalist won the Grand Prix that day with Special Ed. Wish you could have been there!

(Vern and "Bergy" after a clip and clean up job)

Greeting from "Matthie Ranch Resort," spring home of Wasatch in the Sun! We have been busy riding, clipping, making jumps, and enjoying being outside with the sun on our skin! I have made some changes in the sale page and have entered our first horse show for 2009. I hope to see you all soon!

2008

Happy Holidays! The snow finally came to McCall just in time for Christmas. We have been enjoying some great skiing the past week. The barn is pretty quiet with a handful of lessons, a few horses in training and snow piling up.

The end of 2008 is here, and though the analysts say good riddance, I feel like it really has been a good year.

Exactly one year ago when we tragically lost Dennis. I didn’t have any faith or idea on what might be in store for the year to come. But as life would have it, we had a great year and I like to think Dennis is enjoying the view!

The year started with AMAZING skiing; some of the best ever with great conditions, company and terrain.

From there we traveled to Arizona for some WSH in the sun. While we were south, we sold 5 horses, learned to road bike and spent some quality pool time.

A large group of us got together in England for a celebration and tour in May that couldn’t be beat.

The summer was filled with great horses, friends, shows, clinics and runs. Josh and I got away for a few camping trips and Shilo got a new knee!

Fall 2008 included selling the last horse for sale in the barn, passing my Instructor Certification exam, seeing family from west coast to east while still spending some time reading by the fire and enjoying time at home.

So, now as 2009 looms in front of me, I am torn between apprehension and excitement. I would like more horses in training, full lesson schedules and clinics booked nation wide. Until that happens I will be enjoying the opportunities McCall and its surrounding areas has to offer and keeping my options open for adventures to come!
